Before I was doing graphic design, I was DJ-ing pretty heavily down in San Diego from 1998 till we moved up to the bay. I wanted to scratch just like Babu, Q-bert, and D-styles. A few years back, I actually got to scratch at Q-bert’s house one day, and he gave me respect! That actually was a big goal of mine as a young DJ, so when that day came, I felt like I was finally validated as a scratch DJ. haha!
Now-a-days I’m lucky because I can scratch and keep my daughter entertained at the same time. Win win!

I remember one of the FIRST records I ever bought as a kid was ‘License To Ill.’ I played the S**T out of that record on my fold up fisher price record player, and knew EVERY LYRIC OF EVERY SONG. I sang along even though I didn’t REALLY know what I was saying.
At that time, I don’t think I understood the depth of, or the kind of impact the Beasties would have on music going forward. Only now can I truly say that THE BEASTIE BOYS were and continue to be, a huge influence on not only myself… but music culture in general.
Thanks for the heads up MATTLOCKS… The world is going to miss you MCA!!! Rise In Power…
